Before a packed audience Stephen Katz screened his impressive show reel, showing the highlights of his 40 year career and spanned over 60 films, including the John Landis cult movie Blues Brothers and the Oscar winning Gods and Monsters.
Stephen gravitated toward cinematography and began perfecting his craft under the guidance of Academy Award Winners Geoffrey Unsworth (Cabaret, 2001: Space Odyssey, Tess) and Haskell Wexler (Bound for Glory, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf).
In the world of independent films, Roger Corman sought out Stephen and for ten years Stephen worked for Corman and companies such as American International Pictures (AIP), Crown International and New World Pictures as director of photography.
Protecting their investments, studios and bond companies have often asked Stephen throughout his career to be cinematographer with many first-time directors.
Stephen Katz is known in the industry not only for his talent as a director of photography but also for his ability to meet schedule demands and stay within the budget.
It was a great honour to welcome him at Eicar!
