The school year consists of three academic terms
each approximately 11 weeks long.
Generally, the first term begins the second week of October; the second, the second week of January; the third runs through April to the beginning of July.
The first term consists of theoretical courses with filmed exercises.
The second term is a combination of theoretical and hands-on-film courses. The emphasis of the third term is primarily hands-on-film production but will include workshops, specialisation modules, and master classes given by guest professors, all of whom are film professionals.
For students in the advanced programmes and meeting the prerequisites, film productions begin in November and run until the following September.
Mid-term examinations are held the 5th week of each term.
The two school calendar holidays are:
- Winter break: December 20 - January 5
- Spring break: February 14 - March 2
