Producing

The goal of EICAR’s Producing Program

is to prepare students for a career in the audiovisual industry as a producer by giving the students the fundamentals of the key disciplines of film and video production.

  • The program emphasis is twofold:
    • Cross-disciplinary courses that give the students the knowledge and understanding of all aspects of film, television and media production enabling them to organize and communicate with their collaborators and to produce for the various medias.
    • Hands-on teaching where the students “learn-by-doing” in a collaborative environment. This lets the student develop his own creative and organization skills through teamwork. The students have the opportunity to work in most film and digital formats (HD, RED, 5D...)
  • The Producing program is specifically designed to give students professional preparation for a career as a film, television or digital media producer. This is accomplished through theoretical courses and practical exercises as well as extensive hands-on practical work where students can master the technical and aesthetic principals of filmmaking by actually producing student films.

EICAR offers two degrees:

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film is a 3 year program in English which provides a broad introduction to the fundamental elements of filmmaking with a specialization in Production, including hands-on experience in the positions of production manager, location manager and director of production.
    >> Bachelor specialization Production
  • Master of Fine Arts with specialization in Producing is a highly individualized 2 year program designed for students who have either a Bachelor’s degree or who have had professional experience in the film or audiovisual media industry.

The first year consists of intermediary and advanced courses in the key disciplines of filmmaking as well as hands-on-film exercises and shorts. Additionally, in the first year, non-credited courses in the fundamentals of filmmaking are offered to MFA students who lack the prerequisites for the more advanced courses.

In the second year the emphasis is on the student’s thesis project in the area of their specialization. Students have additional required courses and workshops in their specialization as well as one-to-one tutoring. Extensive practical hands-on experience as production manager, location manager and director of production on EICAR’s student productions are an integral part of both the first and second year curriculum.
    >> Master specialization Production

Additionally, EICAR offers Fast Track

a non-degree, one year intensive filmmaking program is tailored to meet a student’s specific needs. The program serves as a powerful springboard for students looking to begin their film education by testing the waters. Producing courses are available to Fast Track students.
